Rigging & structural steel, Melbourne.
Dogging, rigging, complex lifts and structural steel erection at height — rope-access riggers for the loads a crane can't place and the spots scaffold can't reach.
Steel and loads, placed and secured at height.
A crane can get steel into the air — but someone still has to be up there to receive it, position it, bolt it up and make it safe, often in spots no platform reaches. That's rope-access rigging. 360 Access provides ticketed riggers and doggers who are also rope-access-qualified, so complex and constrained lifts, load movement and structural steel erection get done safely alongside your crane crew, without building scaffold towers just to reach the connection.
Scope types we handle at height.
"Rigging" covers a broader range of scopes than just structural steel erection. The work that lands on us in Melbourne and Brisbane includes:
- Structural steel erection — primary structural members, secondary steel, mezzanine and platform steel. Combined with welding-at-height capability where in-situ welding is required (see welding at height).
- Building maintenance unit (BMU) install and modification — davit installation, BMU track install, weatherproofing modifications.
- Signage steel — billboard, illuminated signage and corporate-branding steel install at height. Common on CBD commercial assets and retail strips.
- Façade-mounted plant install — HVAC condenser units, telecommunications equipment, antenna and dish install on building façades and rooftops.
- Landing and platform replacement — old landings (often on industrial-heritage stock) replaced with structurally-certified new steel. See our Tanner Street project for a recent example.
- Anchor and height-safety steel install — structural anchor points, static-line steel, davit bases. See height-safety systems for the full anchor-system scope.
- Demolition rigging — controlled lift-out and removal of structural members during refurbishment and demolition scopes.
The competency stack rigging-at-height requires.
Rigging-at-height scopes carry their own competency requirements layered over rope-access training:
- Dogging ticket (CPCCLDG3001 — Licence to Perform Dogging). Required for any person directing the movement of loads — slinging, lifting, signalling crane operators. Our riggers carry current dogging tickets.
- Rigging ticket (basic, intermediate or advanced — CPCCLRG3001/3002/3003). Required for the rigging-at-height scope categories. Intermediate covers most façade-mounted-plant and signage scopes; advanced covers structural steel erection.
- Welding qualifications where in-situ welding is part of the scope (see welding at height).
- Rope-access competency — two-rope system training as standard for the rope-access component.
- Engineering sign-off — structural rigging works typically require structural engineering sign-off on the as-built; we install to the engineer's drawings and provide the workmanship records they need for certification.
For Tier 1-3 builders, the documentation pack on a rigging-at-height scope is broader than pure rope-access work — see our builder service path for how the documentation fits commercial-builder onboarding.
Rigging-at-height capability extending north.
Brisbane's Olympics build-out, the Cross River Rail program and the continuing residential pipeline across Newstead, South Brisbane and the Gold Coast strip mean SE Queensland is generating sustained demand for specialist rigging-at-height work. 360 Access is extending into the Queensland market through 2026 with the same rigging-and-rope-access capability that delivers in Victoria — QBCC-licensed, WorkCover Queensland registered, $20M insured. See our Brisbane service area for delivery detail.
Rigging & steel FAQs
What rigging and steel work do you do?
Dogging and rigging, complex and constrained lifts, load movement at height, and structural steel erection and installation — particularly where access is difficult and a crane alone can't place or secure the load.
Why use rope-access riggers?
Many lifts need people at height to receive, position, bolt up and secure steel in places scaffold or an EWP can't reach. Rope-access riggers get there safely and work alongside the crane crew.
Are your teams ticketed for rigging and dogging?
Yes — rigging and dogging is carried out by appropriately ticketed personnel who are also rope-access qualified.
Got a tricky lift or steel install?
Tell us the load and the location — we'll respond within one business day.
